Dubai is served by two airports, and the difference between them is significant.
Dubai International (DXB) sits just 5km from the city centre and handles the overwhelming majority of traffic. It’s the hub for Emirates and flydubai, and the Dubai Metro Red Line connects directly to both terminals in about 20 minutes to Downtown Dubai.
Al Maktoum International (DWC), also called Dubai World Central, is 37km southwest near Jebel Ali. Far fewer passenger flights operate here, and there’s no metro connection; you’ll need a taxi or bus, typically 45 minutes or more to the city.
Almost every Istanbul flight lands at DXB, so this rarely becomes a decision. But check the airport code on your booking, because a DWC arrival adds meaningful time and cost to the transfer.
